Minus all meningitis thoughts. The flu symptons were strong. Headache, burning fever and sore throat. So what does any natural mother do when their offspring takes ill. They smother him or her with a lot of TLC and would walk to the ends of the earth just to take away the pain and suffering.

Meningitis still so distant in my thoughts..The lucozade was poured out in pints to quench his thirst and a saturated flannel to change every minute to wipe his brow. I prayed more times to god than that of any pope for my son to pull out of this other world he had elapsed into.

The curtain may well have been a brick wall that separated me and my little boy in the hospital. But he was in good hands I assured myself and that being the hands of god.

It seemed like a life time before that curtain came swishing back to have the doctor in his white coat appear before me.
I gave him lucozade I wiped his brow. I even put on his favourite videos and smothered him with all the love I could possibly give. Where did I go wrong doctor? You did nothing wrong was his reply.

Just to hear those words that there was no cause for alarm and that my little boy was going to pull through, gave me back all the strength that seemed to have drained from my body while waiting for the outcome of this nightmare.

Meningitis symptons had a strong presence the doctor said. It was a virus on the inside trying to break out.
Tears of happiness flowed like that of Niagra falls as I rushed to my little boys side.

Holding him tight kissing and cuddling him like any natural mother would do.

Ouch! Teething hurts! It’s a very painful and stressful time for baby. There are a few things you can do to ease the pain.

Teething usually occurs between 6 months and 24 months of age. Often the bottom two front teeth will appear first and then the four top front teeth. Baby will often begin drooling or try to chew on any firm object within reach.

Baby’s gums may be tender and swollen and cheeks near the affected gums will sometimes become red. While most babies go through the teething experience without excessive pain, that’s not the case with all of them. For some it may be very uncomfortable and baby may become extremely irritable.

You can help by rubbing baby’s gums with a clean wet finger or use a cold table spoon to gently massage the gums. This will help ease the pain and soothe baby.

Chilled teething rings are a popular option. When using a teething ring you can increase its effectiveness by storing it in the refrigerator. Baby will find the coolness on the gums is very soothing. You want the ring chilled, but not frozen. A frozen teething ring could cause frostbite to baby’s tender lips and gums.

Some parents allow baby to chew on a clean cold wash rag. Another idea is to wrap cracked ice in a washcloth and allow children to chew on this. Careful! Watch your babies to make sure they don’t accidentally choke on any ice that may slip out of the washcloth.

When a baby reaches six months of age she loves to feed herself. Create a custom made cool treat by filling an ice cube tray with baby’s favorite juice and put wooden sticks in each section. The frozen treat will numb baby’s gums for a few moments and may even generate a few giggles.

After the first two bottom teeth appear, baby can chew on a cold carrot or apple. This helps ease the pain, as well as gives baby a little added nutrition. Of course, never give baby something he can choke on.

Keep over the counter teething gel handy. Ask your doctor if he or she recommends a pain reliever medication. Don’t mistake certain symptoms with teething when those symptoms could actually represent an illness or infection. Diaper rash, high fever, diarrhea, sleepless nights and vomiting are not a side effect of teething. If your baby displays any of those things get to your doctor quickly.

Chances are you won’t be able to make your baby completely comfortable during teething, but if you follow these suggestions you will be doing everything you can.

Recently, on my seven-city cross-Canada seminar tour I was asked by my Calgary sponsor if I would speak to her group, her son’s group. I said yes. What I didn’t know was her son’s group was a group of 10-year-olds in a grade three class in Alberta.

On the way to the school, I designed my presentation. Given this was the first time I had taught Law of Attraction to non-adults, part of my NLP training (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) told me I needed to talk to the children at their level, make it fun and get them to participate.

When teaching adults, I use words like manifestation, vibrations, synchronicity, serendipity, and coincidence. So what words could I use that children would relate too? I decided to open up a conversation about vibes. What did that word mean and what were some examples of it?

The students quickly waved their hands in the air. These were some examples I heard:

(a) When my mom doesn’t have her coffee, she gets negative vibes.

(b) When my parents fight in the house, I can feel negative vibes.

(c) When I see a bully at school, I feel negative vibes.

(d) Being in a scary building that’s dark gives me negative vibes.

These kids clearly knew exactly what negative vibes are and they agreed having a negative vibe is not a great way to attract friends or nice people.

Next, I drew a picture of a light switch on the blackboard, showing the on and off positions. “On” meant you were negative, and “off” meant you weren’t. After having the students agree it was better to be positive than negative, I asked if they wanted to learn how to turn off a negative vibe. They all excitedly said yes.

I asked them to write these three words in their notebooks; don’t, not, and no, and asked for examples for when these words were used in their lives. You can bet they had quite a list to give me. Here are some examples:

(a) Don’t be late.

(b) Don’t get your clothes dirty.

(c) Don’t beat up your brother.

(d) Don’t talk with your mouth full.

(e) Don’t spill your milk.

(f) Don’t cry.

(g) Don’t play ball in the house.

(h) Don’t eat or drink at the computer.

Next, I taught them a “secret”. They loved knowing I was going to give them a secret. It was my strategy to give them a secret so they would treat it as something special and really want to remember it. I told them it was a secret that even their parents might not know. And, with this secret, they could help change negative vibrations to positive ones.

The students learned that the secret to switching their vibes is when you hear yourself say or think don’t, not, and no, simply say, So, what do I want? And, of course, they eagerly wrote down the answer to the secret.

They got it — and fast! I knew they’d be going home, eagerly wanting to connect this message with their parents. So again I reminded them they had a secret, and to be gentle telling others about it. This way the next time their parents said don’t, not, and no, the kids could say, “So what do you want?”

When the school day ended, the teacher, who was also present for my presentation, made one last comment to his departing class as he’s been doing every Friday — “DON’T FORGET YOUR HOMEWORK”. The kids had a lot of fun with this. They quickly asked the teacher, “So what do you want?” And, of course, he said, “Remember your homework.”

For me, this experience was very valuable. Many people have asked me to teach or write about Law of Attraction for teenagers or children, and I’ve always given the same answer. I don’t know how because I don’t have any children. But I learned that young people can pick it up very quickly.
