Top Seed Crashes out of Karachi Open Final
Just when everything seemed to be smooth sailing for top seed Muqaddas Ashraf, things went awry during the latter sets of the final match which was enough to send her crashing out of the Karachi Open Women Squash Championship final match.
The inaugural Rockrete Karachi Women Squash Championship was attended by hundreds of female players in Pakistan. Ashraf was the strongest favorite in the tournament considering that she’s the top seeded player plus she’s the highest ranked Pakistani squash player as of the moment.
Her conqueror in the final match was Zoya Khalid, who performed her very best using the squash racket to upset the top seed. Khalid is seeded fourth in the tournament and is ranked 178th in the world.
Ashraf easily took the first set at 11-7 before Khalid evened things out in the second with 11-7 as well. Ashraf took the third set at 11-5 and was on course to victory in the fourt set but Khalid was quicker and took the next two sets and the title.
For her victory, Khalid took home Rs 13,300 wile Ashraf settled for the Rs 9,100 cash prize for the runner-up.
